Well this all started early last year (2014) when we entered the ballot for passes to the centenary commemoration of the Gallipoli landings. Unfortunately when the results of the ballot were announced we were not successful. About four weeks ago however we were offered passes from the waitlist subject to us being able to arrange travel within a couple of days.
Having decided it would a fabulous thing to share with Dad (Bob) I called him and asked him if he would join me on this adventure. He immediately said yes, perhaps encouraged by Mum who in the background was telling he could under no circumstances say no!!
So the adventure begins.
Tonight we fly out of Auckland bound for London where I will do a couple of days work and we'll have a couple of days relaxing before the bustle of Turkey.
It is real honour to be able to go and experience this once in a lifetime event, made more significant by being able to share it with Dad. To be able to commemorate the events that by many opinions were the coming of age of New Zealand (and Australia) together with remembering all those young men who fought, died or were wounded will be something we will treasure forever.
I will attempt as much as possible to put entries into this blog every day so those of you back home can share in this special pilgrimage.
