Last day in Vietnam!
After another long sleeper train (13 hours…although can't complain too much as the group behind us got delayed for 22 hours!) we arrived in Halong Bay earlier this week. Although a bit foggy, the boat cruise (with free lunch!) across the bay was amazing, as you can see from the freshly uploaded pictures I went a bit crazy with the camera. Very nice though, although it could have been a bit warmer and sunnier. But I did love the peaceful atmosphere there, and it was absolutely beautiful.
We have spent about 2 days in Hanoi now, and what a crazy city it is. Like Saigon, you put your life on the line everytime you attempt to cross the road - although the street crossing skills have improved, the best technique is to just walk and let the motorcyclists avoid you!
I also had my first encounter with the Vietnamese post office yesterday - to say it is unorganized would be a huge understatement. I had to fill in about 5 or 6 forms, all repeating the same things, whilst a hundred people try to climb over your shoulders to get to the staff first. And I have no idea if any of the two parcels I sent actually get to their destinations, but we shall see.
Today, we are leaving at 7pm for a lovely 20 hour bus trip from Hanoi, across the border, and to Vientiane (capital of Laos). 12/13 hours to the border, then another 8 or so once you get into Laos, through mountain roads of course. I read somewhere that a few people said it was "the worst experience of my life", so this should be interesting. Mp3 player is charged, so that shall be what attempts to keep me sane!

Christine Ton passage à Hanoï semble avoir contribué à une approche zen de la vie dans la foule ! Amuse-toi bien (?!?) pour les quelques heures de train vers le Laos ! Bises.
Sylvain Enjoy!! ;-)
