I apologise for the lack of posts - just realised I hadn't updated since Byron Bay, and since we have now come halfway through our Australia trip, I figured that a recap would be good!
I loved Byron, so it was rather sad to leave, but since then we've been up to quite a lot. We've been followed by rain up the coast; after leaving Byron, we stopped in Surfers Paradise for the night (didn't quite live up to its name but that may have been down to the rain and that we were exhausted), hugged koalas, fed kangaroos and met up with an old school friend in Brisbane, discovered a bit of Noosa National Park, more rain in Rainbow Beach... and finally, a bit of sun in Fraser Island!
Fraser Island was amazing. We set off with 5 strangers on Sunday morning in a 4x4 Landrover for 3 days and 2 nights of camping on the world's biggest sand dune island. The second we hit the tracks after the ferry across, the crazy 4x4 driving began. To say the roads were bumpy would be an understatement - don't think I've ever been thrown around the car so many times! Fraser island is a combination of rainforest sand tracks (quite tricky to drive on but awesome fun, I did send my passengers flying a few times though), perfect blue fresh water lakes with blinding white sand, a ridiculously long stretch of beach which has become the highway for the island (there is nothing greater than cruising down the beach at 70km/hr with your mates, sun shining, windows down, and music blasting), and shark infested seas (although we failed to spot any). I drove quite a bit, on the beach and in the rainforest, even over a little hill of very soft and think sand (popped the car into 2nd/3rd gear, put my foot down on the accelator, and just blasted up the hill with the engine going crazy - so much fun). The whole island is like a playground really! In the evenings, you end up on a campsites and mingle with loads of other backpackers who are also on self-drive safaris. Basically, we had a great few days. It was a nice break from the usual hostel-greyhound routine we've picked up over the past 2 weeks, and it was good fun. Although its nice to think that I get to sleep on a proper mattress tonight rather than in a tent!
Tomorrow we are off to the tiny tiny town of 1770 where Hannah and I are going to brave it and drive some choppers. Should be interesting!
I apologise for the lack of pictures, this site has given up on uploads so I shall try facebook or another site once I get to a hostel that lets you plug in memory cards.

Bises.
Jérémie at first I thought you meant helicopter.. LAME!! (but still cool^^) sounds like your having fun!
