Every day in Cambodia just gets better and better.
After the Killing Fields yesterday a few of us opted for a more emotional-free afternoon. We found this bar with a pool, which is popular with the full time volunteers in Phnom Penh rather than the tourists. It was awesome just relaxing and hearing all sorts of amazing stories (which make mine rather boring in comparison!). We even experienced our first SE Asia 5 minute rain storm! Very cool.
That evening the whole group took tuk-tuks out of town to the outskirts to talk to kids at a small school and practice their English (adorable) and then followed by dinner at a local family's house. Proper sitting on the floor local meal - it was possibly the best food I've had since I've been out here. I even can tick off eating fried tarantula off my to do list! Tasty? Not so much ... very chewy and difficult to swallow, especially when stopping to think about the fact that you are eating a rather large spider. Still, it was an experience (?!). Definitely was an amazing evening though, again because it was about the whole travelling rather than tourist side of backpacking.
We took the local bus yesterday morning to reach Sihanoukville, on the coast. Today we had an amazing day - we took a boat to some deserted islands for a whole day of snorkelling, sunbathing (ok, more like burning rather than tanning but still), floating around in the perfect sea, and seafood lunch on the white sand beach. Imagine one of those screensavers with a picture of a perfect white sand beach and clear blue sea? Yeah, that's what it was like. Pictures will be up soon as soon as I can find a way of uploading them, I promise!
Unfortunately, we leave Cambodia tomorrow to cross the border into Vietnam. We are heading for a popular local restaurant this evening, so it'll be a good way to say goodbye to this amazing country.
