Hello! Heres a bit of an update of the past few days. Thursday was my first full day in Deutschland, Caro and I woke up early so we could avoid the traffic to get to Würzburg, a town an hour away. Caro is going to Uni there in three weeks. We beat the traffic but not the hoards of students who had also woken up at the crack of dawn to get to Uni Fill Out Form Day. While Caro waited in line, i had a look around the uni, a little bit different from Radelaide, bigger and more grey. The rest of our day was spent exploring the town, the Rezidensce, the Alte Mainbrücke and the Hofgarten.... really just some tourist sites, but all the same they were nice to see. We shopped (yay H&M!) and had a coffee with Aljona - Lia's old billet for those who are interested. A fantastic day topped off by a night dancing and drinking with Caro's friends in my first German club... a litte different to Australia, it had three main rooms and a large outside area for smoking. I was so amused by the techno room referred to as 'The Golden Nugget'.
Friday we visited Ansbach, a larger German town that I love, it has such charm with its old buildings and cobblestone streets, its really peaceful. Brought back memories of my last trip here, with lia and ellie and tara... and remembering the banana incident at the Ansbach horse made me laugh. Lisa's 18 that night was so much fun, we sat and drank at beer tables in a marquee behind her house. Although I couldn't understand much of what everyone was saying I had fun meeting some new friends and also seeing two girls from Immanuel.... a nice connection with home. And now we have all spent a day recovering after staying up so late last night...... dinner tonight is at the girls work, I think with traditional German food so thats a new and exciting experience.
Some extra interesting (and i think strange) things I have learnt about Germany in the past few days. The girls wear these funny stocking socks whenever they wear high heels or any shoes that dont require socks....... you have to take a pair with you when you go out to buy a pair of shoes :S I don't think they could handle the barefoot Australians in summer! The radio - the people controlling the radio don't like to play full songs... which I'm finding extremely annoying, you start really getting into a song and then booommmmmmmmmm.... its the news before you have even had time to sing your favourite part. . . i'll keep ypu updated on more of these strange wonders when i discover them.....
Excitement is building for the Oktoberfest . . . the dirndl im borrowing is sooo cool. I cant wait to party looking like a traditional german girl :) Photos willl be posted soon so get excited! xxxx
