FW Travels
Did you Know Yellowstone was the first National park in the National Park system? We
started out around 9:30 made it over the hill and took a short cut
through Teton Village that may have been shorter but took longer,
the road into Teton Village was a nice paved road, the way out to the
park was dirt and and probably 15 mph max although the speed limit
was 25. back on the main road again there were a group of cars
stopped along the road, you don't need to spend time looking for game
the tourists find it and stop on and off the road. there was a herd
of buffalo grazing in the meadow land on both sides of the highway.
Took some pictures and when the highway opened up we proceeded
towards Yellowstone.
The one
feature of the park We wanted to see was Old Faithful, so it was 70
miles to the park from Jackson and Old Faithful is 49 miles inside
the park whit the road altitude in excess of 8,000' at times, well we
came upon another traffic jam and sure enough more game, this time an
Elk about 15' off the roadway, now the literature the park hands out
suggests that you don't stop, but go to the nearest turn out which in
most cases is not where the game is, and it goes on to suggest not to
get within 100 yards of the game. Here is this guy with his son out
of the car and probably within 10” of the Elk, the Elk appeared to
be quite old and use to the tourists and just continued to eat .
By now
it's lunch time so we stopped at one of the vendor stores and got a
snack and continued to the attraction, arriving we were amazed at all
the cars, hundreds in several parking lots, cruising the lots looking
for a spot as close as possible we found one which was probably an
eighth mile from the attraction, we made our way to an area of shade
and sat in the gravel, about 3-5 min. later it blew. Now we can
leave, Connie took the dog for a walk, I sat in the shade and waited.
Back in
the truck and headed back to base camp we stopped at different
locations for photo opportunities. I was getting darker and darker
and then it happened a huge Thunderstorm opened up and we got a free
truck wash for probably 20 miles, outside the truck there were
several motorcycle and bicycle folks scrambling for their rain gear.
And that pretty much took up the rest of the afternoon the weather
went to ****.
It was a
good day and we added another river we have been to both ends to our
list, that would be the North Fork of the Yuba, The Rouge River and
The Snake.

Chari Sounds like you had a long day but got in the sights. I like the shot of Maya looking at Old Faithful. Love you both!
