Well hello...
Phi Phi feels like ages ago and was basically a blur of drink, partying and visa drama but I'll try and peace it all together and tell you the highlights!
Getting there took ages from Laos. We left Vientiane and got an overnight train to Bangkok and arrived so early in the morning we didn't really know what to do with ourselves. So we went and had brekkie in an amazing hotel and took a peek at their rooftop view over Bangkok which was pretty cool. Then we found a shopping mall and managed to waste some time there and went to see Harry Potter again in the best cinema I've ever been to in my life. The seats were massive - everyone had their own, it was like a sofa chair, and they bring you a blanket and free drink and you can recline so far back. Awesome times.
Then we had the worst train journey of my life down to Krabi - it took all night and we didn't have beds to sleep in this time. The train was broken to they were welding our carriage together as it set off and we didn't get a wink of sleep. Then when we arrived in Krabi after being carted off into numerous minivans, we were told that we couldn't get to Phi Phi because of a 'big wave', 'big wind' and a number of other reasons. Still we sat there and we sat there and after about 3 or 4 hours we were allowed n the boat - hurray! Then on the boat we sat there for about an hour and got some beers wondering why we weren't moving - and then we set off - hurray! But then after about half an hour we stopped in the middle of nowhere. We sat there and we sat there and then rumours started flying around the boat that we were stranded and a rescue boat was going to rescue us because the boat had broken down. Everyone started grabbing for life jackets - Louise's face haha she was well scared! Sorry Lou but you were!!
It turns out the tide was too low and we were stuck on the bottom. Some people said we were going to have to jump onto the rescue boat from ours. In the end we were simply towed back. Some people opted to sleep on the boat and wait for it to leave in the morning but we went and found a hotel in Krabi to stay in. By this time we'd been stranded for about 8 hours and it was taking us 3 days to get to Phi Phi! Madness. The next morning there was a huge rain storm and we were worried we get going again - but eventually after more delays we were off and then the sea sickness hit. Luckily I managed to get away with being sick but Louise threw up...oh dear!
Day 1
So when we arrived we couldn't believe how beatuiful it was! The water was so clear you could see the fish and the views were stunning. After a while we found a place to stay in the evacuation zone on the island which was a bit worrying. Then we started hearing about a possible tsunami warning in the area because Japan was flooding or something or other. Not good! Especially since last time Phi Phi was hit by a tsunami it wiped out the whole island! We didn't do much on the first day apart from book a trip to Maya bay which is where they filmed The Beach with hot Leo DiCaprio, and me and Louise took a trip to The Viewpoint where you can see the sunset over the island which was lovely.
That night was drinking on the beach and in (shock horror) an Irish bar! The buckets were 3 for the price of 1 how could we resist?! The partying was really good and there was a really good atmosphere too - so far so good on Phi Phi!
More to come later...!
