Had a relaxing morning today. Nice not to have to get up early and rush somewhere. We did have to do another load of laundry, particularly our 'crab' clothes from last night. Mum is learning all about Netflix and I was catching up with this blog. Adam had arranged for Bailey, a friend of his to take mum and I up on a sightseeing flight over Chesapeake Bay. Adam & Bailey were flatmates back in Sydney about 10 years ago and he is probably the reason Adam is over here in the USA. He came over for a holiday, met Chrissy and the rest is history.
Anyway, Bailey has his pilot's license, he rented a Cessna plane and up we went. You can't fly over DC unfortunately because it is restricted airspace but we flew out over the bay. Also flew over Annapolis, the naval academy where they become officers. Was a lovely afternoon checking out the countryside. The flight was nice and smooth and the visibility really good. It's interesting to see how it changes as you fly over suburban Maryland with their 'monopoly' houses as mum says, to houses a little more spread out to you get to the houses on big properties with heaps of green space and usually with waterfront acreage.
Eventually it was time to land. There is no control tower at this small airport or where we were flying. It is the pilot's responsibility to keep an eye out for other planes. Feels very weird to see a plane flying above or below you. Also, because this airport is very close to restricted air space, you need to lodge a flight plan and then get a special code so they can keep an eye on you to make sure you don't stray where you shouldn't.
Back to Adam's and a bit more relax time and trying to sort out a hotel for Orlando before we headed out for dinner to a Korean BBQ. Adam assured mum she would like the meat, even if she didn't like all the sides, which was pretty true. Another new dining experience for this trip!!
