Frey Kat Danielle's SEA Travels
We change our mode of transport to bus amd head off in our no airconditioned, quite comfy bus to Sukhothai.
The bus driver is pushy, he just over took 3 cars with another coming head on (apparently thai drivers drive as fast as they can but are never in a hurry!). I don't think many road rules exist here, no seems to stop, they just push in and the horn has alot of sway. But I haven't seen 1 display of road rage which is good otherwise noone would get anywhere....
Similar scenery to the train, mountains in the distance, lush green fields with farmers tending to them, a few feeding their cows, with sling shot in hand to keep them off the road.
We stayed at the Riverside Guesthouse in Sukhotahi which was a quaint teakhouse (on the river) with a lovely lady 'nan'. Our bed soft and amazing compared to last nights with a huge living space to hang out in with heaps of laze about chairs. But we are in ruin mode so we set off to the old city where we hire a push bike and ride around beautiful big grounds.
Our first stop was the 'Wat Mahathat' which has some big buddhas, small lakes on one side and huge trees within its space. The grounds here are looked after really well, its confusing that the thai people don't look after their towns the same way, but prefer to throw their rubbish on the street. We continued to ride around the old city, a Thai man trying to con Danielle into going to look at a gold buddha with him (lucky instinct set in and she didnt), also a group of other tourists that said they kept getting lost decided to tag along with us so they wouldn't (I told them it would cost them 50 baht each, but they didnt believe me), and lets not forget Danielle and her snake experience......
On one of the last Wats we looked at Danielle nearly trod on a green snake that had a black and yellow head. Luckily for her it was more scared and slithered away. At the end of our day on the way back into the new city we decided that we were over our ruin stage and that it was similar to England, riun after ruin after ruin after castle after castle after castle.
We ate had icecream, watched some public aerobics and decided we had had enough for the day. It wasnt until we were showered and in bed under the safety of our mosquito net that we realised it was friday night and we were in bed by 9......my excuse still getting used to time difference.....good enough....danielle didnt have one.....
