In the Maldives we joined saa and jizzie (two of Frey’s IH college friends), floated on cloud 9 and basked in the amazing generosity of Saa, Saleem and Huffi who organized our stay at the Hilton! We knew we were in for a treat when we had to catch a sea plane to get to Rangali island (the Hilton is spread over two islands with a 500m bridge between them). We didn’t stop drooling for a very long time (and with reason!): our rooms were huge (and ultra stylish too)! They featured: lots of windows, a water feature, awesome mood lighting lamps, a big couch, a big TV, a great sound system (that all too frequently for jizzie’s liking played frey and saa’s theme song for the trip - I am yours by Jason Mraz), a walk in wardrobe, an open air shower and huge bath set in a beautiful garden (the bath fit all 6 of us), and last but not least a picturesque beach about 2 seconds from the back door!!!!!!!!!!
The food was equally gob smacking – buffet breaky, lunch and dinner (no-one would go on this sort of holiday trying to lose weight) at the Atoll restaurant. It had about 7 different stations - asain, indian, japanese, italian, dehli/salad/bakery, grill house, desert (unreal)... It became normal for us to go straight to the desert bar, see what was on offer and then decide how much real dinner we could eat so that we would still have room for desert! (Our usual waiter thought it was funny – but we just thought it was smart!). We also had a banquet dinner on a Yacht. So much awesome food!!!!!!!!!!! (Kat wouldn’t mind a yacht like this – any one feeling generous?). While we didn’t have the money to eat at the amazing underwater restaurant (think under water world on the sunny coast but in the ocean) saa smuggled us in there before the first dinner sitting, where we admired the sting rays, fish and coral while indulging in classy Champagne. The food was complemented by the beverages consumed over the trip (just a few of course) and the Disco nights saw Kat and Danielle’s repetroire of dance moves expand to include the shopping trolley, bumper cars, horse riding, a fish being reeled in and a scuba OK move. We enjoyed some big nights and lots of pre- and post- dinner beers and pina coladas (not bad, not bad at all).
The water around the island provided much fun and laughs (georgies grunts going over the bumps on the bannana boats making people laugh and almost fall off were a highlight). There was also some awesome snorkelling on the house reef, georgie managed to see a turtle, frey a shark and kat, danielle and jizzie retrieved an umbrella (what the?). Frey did her advanced open water dive course which was really cool. Kat and jizzie joined frey for the wreck and night dives. In the wreck dive we got to swim in the hull of the ship with thousands of these little clear ghost fish. Despite jizzie hyping the night dive up as super scary, frey actually survived!
Hanging in Male was relaxed, we got shown about by saa’s cousins and we got to indulge in Huffi’s amazing cooking! For those IH-ers out there we also caught up with Fai (Kaya is such a little cutie) which was cool. Once again a big big big thank you to Saa, Saleem and Huffi for providing this unforgettable experience, the home-cooked food and a wonderful place to chill out!
