Lima is a teeming, bustling, thriving city. Penetrating the ubiquitous fog on descent in the aeroplane, revealed a beautiful sunset and a sprawling city nestled between the vast Pacific Ocean and the mountains, with shanty towns perched precariously on the steep slopes of the barren hills
Fending off the porters and taxi drivers, I was relieved to glimpse Mario (my transfer) with a sign for me. The ensuing journey was a cacophony of taxi beeps and honks (the drivers cheerful conversations!) as we dodged the numerous minibuses (each filled with passengers to double their capacity) and the lime?who nonchalently cross 6 lanes of traffic as if meandering in the park!
Reunited with the other volunteers at the hotel, it really feels like my adventure has begun. We had a city tour with the lovely Millie, who has a proverbial knowledge of all things Lima from preInca ruins to contemporary politics to the Catacombs of the beautiful San Franciscan cathedral.
I also managed to sample the infamous Ceviche (an experience in lime-iness) before we flew over the Andes to Cusco
