Here's the blog that we couldn't get uploaded a couple of days ago:
Ciao, ciao, ciao,
We are now in Venice, having made our way through Positano, Sorrento, Capri and Assisi.
If we visit one more church, we will be nominated for sainthood. Each one, in each town, has its own patron saint who, through paintings and mosaics, has the story of the life of Jesus told from their perspective. They are all the same, yet different. All are extremely beautiful and opulent. We have walked through the towns and villages where the streets are so narrow that two-way traffic is impossible.I understand now why cars in Europe are generally small. Also, we have been warned that traffic signs are "only suggestions" and to assume that cars will stop as we attempt to cross a street is a risk not worth taking.
As we have passed through the different regions, we have encountered warm beautiful weather as well as short periods of rain.Unfortunately, when we have been near the beaches, we have only had the time and opportunity to wet our feet in these beautiful blue waters.
Capri lived up to its reputation as the playground of the rich and famous.Huge vacation villas dotted the hillside overlooking the water.Only top designer stores were on the main shopping street. Many of the shops keep their doors locked and only open them for those that they know can afford to purchase. We took a boat ride along the, coast and took glimpses into a few of the many grottos. It is truly an exquisite place.
We have spent many hours on our "coach" traveling from one place to another. The countryside is magnificent. It is very green and very lush. There are miles of fields and orchards.Occasionally we pass a structure that appears fairly new, but most of the farmhouses are straight out of the movies and books.
We are spending most of our evenings in one room or another drinking wine and enjoying the company of our traveling companions. We have people from Australia, England and Canada as well as the US in our group. With the exception of a couple of "wierdos"and one sick woman who is trying to infect us all, everyone is a pleasure to be with.
We love you and miss you.
Freida and Jenn
