Hello to All,
We waited to give you an update of our activities until our stay in Paris was at its end as the cost of an internet connection was almost as exensive as a 'Coca Cola'. ($9.00 with no refill)
We arrived in Paris after a long but thankfully uneventful flight. Our first look at the city was from the air before sunrise. I now know why the call it the city of light. It was amazing. There was not a dark spot to be found. It was truly awesome.
After a $90 dollar cab ride to our hotel, we wasted no time resting but instead began our excursions at once.
On our first day we walked easily 20 miles exploring the city. It is so unbelievably huge. Our first stop was at the Arc do Triomphe. 284 step up a spiral staircase to see the most incredible view of Paris. Yes, I made it without looking down or stopping for oxygen. A long stroll down the Champ-Elysees found us at the Lovvre to see some of the greatest works of art know to man. Late in the evening we took a cruise down the Seine and passed under the many bridges separating the left and right banks.
The first half of our second day was spent at the Palace at Versailles. A good RE Agent would list it as 84 bedrooms, countless reception and dining rooms, "0" baths. What an unbelievable place. The buildings, the gardens, the pool, absolutely exquisite - to the point of being overwhelming. It gives a new understanding to the reason why the people revolted when the were told to eat cake. In the evening we once again walked the city. Through the Latin Quarter and other areas. We made it a point to find 'Harry's New York Bar and Grill', (made famous in some movie?). A real disappointment.
Today found us at the Musee d'Orsay, Notre-Dame, and Jenn made her way to the top of the Eiffel Tower at night. But the most beautiful place we visited today was Sacre-Coeur, the Basillica at Montmartre. It sits atop a hill in a past of the city where you would not expect it to be. I really can not explain the good feeling I experienced. I think it was my favorite place that I have visited here and one I would return to.
Delightful, Incredible, Amazing. This is not a place you can visit once and be done with it. I wish we had more time to explore.
We will board a plane for Rome in the morning. We miss you all.
