Leaving the garage in Mexico City was such a relief after 3 weeks of stress and worry . They gave us a big send off and presents etc.
We drove quickly up through the northern part if the country and managed to reach the border on sat morning. From there we headed to San Antonio in Texas and found a campground very close to the centre of the city. Here we were warmly greeted and allocated a huge site that is more accustomed to the enormous RV trailers that are the norm in the States.
The average size seems to be about 30 feet long with slide out sides that give further space and of course they are very luxurious inside. This means that we cause considerable interest as people find it hard to imagine that we can exist in a very small space!
We spent Sunday in the centre at the site of the Alamo which was very interesting, there were lots of people as it was the weekend but it was free to go in and we spent a good 2 hours looking at every thing.
Monday we headed up to Dallas and found the garage of a Landrover guy who allowed us to stay inside overnight. This was fortunate as there was a terrific storm that went on for 12 hours with thunder and torrential rain which flooded the roads outside. Hopefully he will try to improve the performance of the engine which is not very good at the moment.
It is great to be here in the states and Texas is very pleasant with huge open spaces and the cities are relatively easy to navigate through.
This weekend we are heading to Gilmer in the North eastern part of the state for a Landrover jamboree which is being organised by the Texas Landrover club and apparently they are expecting up to 100 people. Should be fun!!!!!! Hope the weather is kind as it is quite cold today after all the rain.
Not sure what we will do then, we have lost 3 weeks of travelling time so will have to see.
