The flight was terrible to Bangkok...terrible turbulance for all nine hours of the flight. While waiting in sydney we saw tony Blair...our claim to fame on this trip. He was giving cherie a kiss goodbye at the gate. But we arrive safely in bangkok and there my dad and sister greeted paul and I. It was great to see them. For there we stayed in bangkok...the ground floor of the hotel is where people take the prostitutes. the car park has curtained off sections, like in a hospital for them to take their car and park it and then use the room infornt. it was sick!! cant believe this thing existed...people gave us right funny looks when we went in the hotel, but it was cheap!! :)
We got our bearings in bangkok, but soon after wisked straight off on a 3 hr bus journey, all together to pattaya...now this place is even worse than bangkok for lady boys and prostitutes. me and my sis got asked if we wanted to go see ping pong shows every other second. do we look like we do?? every other bar was a 'go go bar...anything goes....yuck! We checked out this dirty strip and a bit of thai boxing before going off to somwhere nice to each on a pier by lantern light. it was cool. We checked out the beaches and had a quick dip and the weather is so humid and sweaty. But before we knew it, we were back on the public bus, for another 4 hours to catch a ferry to ko samet island. this was a tiny island with one main road. we hired motor bikes, 2 between the 4 of us, and you certianly cant call them roads!! more like sandy, dirty, ruts and pot holes with soft sand added in to make the steep hills very exciting!!
Paul had never ridden a bike before so made the adventure very exciting to the other end of the island. dad made us come out of our comfort zone and we were certainly chucked in the deep end. by the time we returned we felt sick and were covered in dust. Evenings were spent on the beaches on low tables sitting on the sand with colourful lanterns. it was great!
The next island we visited was Ko Chang, after about 7 legs of a journey to get there finally at 10pm...the beaces were amazing with perfect white sand and the sea was almost too warm. The 4 of us were getting on great, we are having a fantastic time. Its cool experiencing the real thai restaurant with stalls in the streets, and all the locals just staring. soon had to get over that!
Then it was valentines day, where me and paul had a romantic day on a 7 hour bus journey back to bangkok. the air con was dripping all over our seats and this crazy thai woman who trapped me was talking asthough i understood every word...she stunk of alcohol and kept falling asleep a little too close to me! She started talking to paul, so he just turned his back and left me to deal with it. thanks paul! :)
We had a night in bangkok while my dad went straight onto a 9hr night bus. paul carry and I could not think of anything worse and needed to break up the journey! The next day we checked out the incredible shopping centres, they were amazing and had ar con...a god send!! Then it was on to the night bus :(
We arrived in Kut Chum, a farm where my dad has been helping out with rice harvesting and got to know the family well so visits them every now and again. Now this was an amazing experience. The whole town has no 'white people' so people were so curius, stroking our white skin. they call us 'flang' so as you step out on to the street, you hear flang flang flang flang from every direction! The market trip say rats..im guessing to eat, bugs and all sorts to eat...wow we were not touching that stuff!!
The family we stying with spoke zero english. I have never come accross such a language barrier! it was really hard to communicate, alot of arm swinging to make actions. they have a shop that we spent time chilling out, and all the school kids would come over and look in amazement at us. we felt like celebraties! the only way to cope was to try and stare back at them, where they then got embarrassed.
At the farm we mingled in with their life. as best as we could. The best was their bathroom, a potty thing, then for a shower you had to throw buckets of cold water over you. it was actually refreshing in the burning heat of the day! We visited buddah with them and has a few meals out. Paul had a few probs with tooth ache which resulted in a hospital visit where all the girls giggled as they looked in his mouth. he made their day!! luckily it got better so no need to pull it out :)
Our last day was spent having a haircut...now I wont be doing that again. It cost me and carry 1 pound 50 each and they did not even ask me how much i wanted off. it was a pur hack! carry asked for a inch and got about 4 inches taken off in 5 snips. the hairwash before was more like a scratch, we felt like our scalp was going to fall out...blimey, relief when we got out of there with some hair left! Paul and dad were down the road having a shave with a bare blade....scary!!
It was time for me carr and paul to leave dad and head to Loas...our next part of the adventure. Incase anyone was wondering, my sister has now joined us as she has been working in sydney and has just started travelling again. she wanted to do aisa, but not as a solo female teraveller, so joined in with us.
