From Bangkok To LA
Hello Everyone
We are now in the South Island! We left Wellington in the morning and managed to catch a ferry. It wasn't too rough fortunately as it was a 3 hour journey, but we kept ourselves entertained, although the food was ming!! Soggy chips, not goo!!
We arrived in Picton and it was peeing it down! We made our way to Kaikoura. It was a pretty long journey,. and there were loads of roads closed due to the rain! We went over bridges and the road looked like it was a river, pretty crazy!!
Anyway, we found a really nice hostel that was pretty cheap! Unfortunately we'd just missed out on the free roast dinner! Don't worry i booked us in for the next night!
Next day we booked a whale watching tour for later on that day! The weather looked good but they said it was really rough!
We had some time to kill so headed down the road to a seal colony! It was swicked, they were all chilling on the rocks, and there was a big lad lying well close to us! It was really cool!
we went to the whale watching place ( stopped off to by some sea sick tablets for me, just in case)
We headed out to sea, and the sea was well rough! I felt horrible whilst frank was sitting there feeling great!
It wasn't long before we saw the first Sperm Whale! He was huge! He floated on the surface for a while before diving down! Once they dive, they don't come back up for about 45 mins!!So we went to find some more whaleas!
We saw 4 other whales which was really cool, although don't think it beats the whales in byron, because they were diving and coming all the time!
We also saw Albatros, which were huge! We didnt see the largest which are the wondering albatros, but we still saw some big ones, about 2-3 metres!!
We came back from the tour and it wasn't long before our free roast dinner was ready! It was well tasty, had gravy as well! Don't worry Geraldine, it wasn't better than yours!!
The next day, we headed out of kaikoura, on the way stopping off where we saw a little sign saying waterfall!
It was about a 10 min walk, but when we got there it was awesome! It was a huge waterfall and at the bottom, were about 20 seal pups all playing and fighting with each other! It was so cool, and they were so cute!! We stood watching them for a while which was reallyc good, but then we had to get going again!
We headed for Christchurch, but when we got there, there was no where to stay! It was NZ vs Ozzies in rugby, so everywhere was full (NZ won by the way). So we carried on down south. We found a place called Timaru. Nothing much there really!
Got up this morning, and we made our way to Dunedin. We decided to go for a drive down to a plce called seal point! There was a massive sand dune, we both ran down it, and were both well close to stacking it, it was so steep and dreading the walk back up!We walked along the beach, and right infront of us was a sealion, just sunning himself! They were all hiding all over the sand dunes, it was wicked!
There are also the rarest penguins in the world, yellow eyed penguins! We went to a view point but couldn't see any!!
We walked back down, Frank ran ahead, and i heard a rustling noise, turned and looked and it was the biggest sealion, just staring at me about 2metres away! It was really cool!
We carried on walking along the beach, and we kept spotting sea lions! As we were alking along we saw a yellow eyed penguin in the sea! He was swimming around, but if they see people then they won't come on the shore, we were hiding but other people weren't, so unfortunately no photos! Although we've got some great ones of the sealions (Poppy the dogs brothers and sisters hehe)!!
Anyway, we're on the road again tomorrow, so im sure there will be some more stories soon!
Hope everyone is well, and a shame the good weather has come to an end!
