Franklin Family Travels
The travel was a scenic buffet of sites. The lush greenery, the villages and people keep me peering out the windows to see more. I don't think the students or myself was prepared for the emotions the day had in store!
As we entered cape coast we stopped off and ate at this cute restuarant called Mabel's Table, which had a awesome beach setting. The food as always was delightful and the people just as gracious. After a hearty meal we were on our way to the town and castle.
I don't think I can fairly blog the experience in words and do justice to the feelings of anyone other than myself. So in retrospect all I can say in true honesty is that the experience was surreal and beyond words.
To walk on the grounds from which we were taught through history books and movies such as Amistad, Roots and Sankofa is almost incomprehensive emotionally. I can't explain the stir of emotions that was felt. One thing is for sure, it did make the story REALLY REAL!!!
After the tour of the slave dungeon a discussion to process the information was led by Dr. Adu Bahen. This proved to be a very important and worthy session. Many of the students shared their different perspective on the experience and their feelings. It was a very difficult yet enlightening moment for the entire group of CSU and UC students.
Our History, African History is a difficult story the tour guide continued to say, and I must agree. As Africans we have endured much and yet we continue to move forward- we are a STRONG PEOPLE.
To God be the GlORY!!!
