As we loaded up and made our way to walk the canopy of the rainforest we found ourselves in a bit of a pickle! The bus brokedown!! We were on the side of the road for a good hour and a half as the driver and several of the men worked to repair the vehicle. Meanwhile, the student made their way off the bus and exploring the roadside where the met some of the local village children. The children shared some fresh cocoa fruit with the students and took them back into the forest to pick their own. This made the wait worth it, this was a moment that we met with optimism and received a great gift of discovery. One we could not have planned if we tried. In return for such hospitality all the children asked for was a PENCIL....

We traveled the rainforest canopy across seven narrow, wobbly, rope bridges. It was definitely and adrenaline rush. Looking down proved to get my heart pounding on more than one occassion and when I dropped my phone I was absolutely terrified as I bent to retrieve it before it slipped through the netting falling to the canopy floor. There would be NO getting it back! LOL
So after the exhausting hike up to and back from the canopy we returned to find that our replacement bus had not yet arrived. Once again we sat waiting. Once again this proved to be a great moment in exploration as one of the students shared a coconut she retrieved from a prior stop. One of the Ghanaian student coordinators showed us how to open the coconut and we all feasted on the flesh of this delicious fruit! It was GREAT!!! Just like that LUNCH arrived and it was "just like home" as one of the students said. Lunch was Fried Chicken and Potatoe Salad- she said "this taste like my momma's salad". As for the four of us vegetarians we rejoiced in having a fresh tossed green salad a pleasant treat from the carb heavy diet we have been experiencing. At the end of lunch we sat for maybe an hour longer to which are replacement bus arrived and we were once again on the road to KUMASI!!! Further north we go....
