Rest day in Dawson City. Sitting in the shade sipping my iced mocha - it's hot in the Yukon! This is likely the last post until we reach Inuvik, 8 days from now. Internet connections are scarce. I cannot upload pictures so this is just a brief update on our progress. We have had 4 steady days of cycling since Whitehorse. All around 130 km except for yesterday which was 156 km. All on hot sunny days, very little shade (trees are kind of scrawny up here) and with a constant headwind and constant hill climbs. I am glad for the rest today.
In all our days on the bike I have seen 1 bear and 1 porcupine which means the riding has been uneventful and frequently boring except for every once in a while when the vista opens up and we get amazing views of the Yukon River valley. I will post photos when I can.
Today we will be switching tour guides - Cycle Canada crew will be leaving us and an Adventure Tour company called Cabin Fever ( I think) will be guiding us up the Dempster starting tomorrow.
Brenda and Mike will be missed. They were great fun and great cooks. I think I may have gained a pound or two.
Everyone has been busy changing tires on their bikes for wider and better treaded? ones. I have not changed mine as I already have wider tires on the bike and am hoping they will be adequate. I did bring some very wide mud tires but don't particularly want to use them unless the weather gets wet and the road gets muddy. But the weather forecast is for sun and cloud most of the week. If that holds true it would be the best scenario for us. So anyway if Plan A sunshine doesn't work out then I have plan B mud tires!
I'll write again from Inuvik. I love you all!
