We landed in New Zealand four days ago, having lost a day due to the international dateline. We've been staying with Brendan and Nat in their lovely house near Mission Bay (Andy worked with Brendan at Save the Children.)
We've done quite a bit of socialising since our arrival as we met Sarah & John for a drink last night (Fran worked with Sarah at the OU) and had dinner with Angela and her family the night before (a college friend of Andy's from his Sligo days). We have also managed to fit in a visit to the Auckland Museum which has some fantastic Maori artefacts and a scary exhibit on volcanoes. You can see quite a number of extinct volcanos around the city and we climbed two of them yesterday.
The weather here has been pretty steamy the last few days with unseasonally high humidity ... but it's cooler than Rarotonga (which isn't a bad thing!). We are in the midst of packing our bags again this morning as we are about to head up to the Bay of Islands in Northland. Thereafter we'll come back down to the Coromandel Peninsula and Rotorua.
