A 20 minute delay, which isn't too bad. The Airbus A380 is a HUGE plane, and it is very full. Babies are already crying, so good job I bought ear plugs.
As well as the usual pillow and blanket, a smart travel bag is available on this flight, with toothpaste, toothbrush, eye mask and slippers that are very funky. Not.
Window seat, so at least I'll have something to dribble down after I take my sleeping tablets...
Ooh, the menu for the flight. The joy of multiple time zones means that it looks like we will be served lunch first, followed by breakfast. And then another breakfast. Quite fitting, considering The Hobbit is filming in New Zealand at the moment, and hobbits have breakfast and second breakfast.
45 minute delay taking off in the end, and as we taxi I realise I have been up for 24 hours. Surprisingly awake.
The little girl in the seat in front of me is already annoying me by tipping the seat back and forth. The dad doesn't seem to care that both his kids aren't wearing seatbelts for takeoff and have their seats reclined. Where's my sleeping tablet...?
A tasty meal, although they ran out of chicken tikka before they got to me, so I had to have fish. Soon time to pop a pill and hopefully wake up refreshed for the rest of the journey.
Sleeping pill taken, ear bungs in, eye mask and pillow at the ready. Waiting for the magic to begin...
Well, it worked! Looks like I slept for about 4 hours. Feel a bit groggy. Watched Super, read SFX, dozed for a bit and watched us reach the coast of Australia on the map. Been flying during nighttime, so nothing much to see outside.
A ripple of applause for a smooth landing was then ruined by us sitting on the tarmac for 10 minutes waiting for a tow as the steering mechanism on the front wheel was malfunctioning. Let's hope our departure isn't delayed any further.
Next stop, Auckland!
