After a tearful farewell it was a bonus to get a double seat to myself at the back of the 777. Plenty of leg room too.
Read a bit of The Silent Land, which I'm really enjoying, then dinner arrived. Shrimp and sweetcorn salad starter. Nooooooo....the dreaded sweetcorn! Main was a mildly spiced lamb rendang, which was really tasty, then a yummy sticky toffee pudding and cheese and biscuits (loved the little croutons and mini pot of sour cream and chive dip). Oh, go on, then. A glass of white wine if I may.
One eye on the flight map, which during dinner showed that we were over Austria and 5 hours away from Dubai. Trying to decide how best to use the time. Read? Movie? Audio drama? Games?
Hmm. Just noticed woman in front of me is constantly sniffing and not watching a soppy movie (Family Guy instead). If I catch a cold off her I will be very grumpy.
Woman on opposite side of plane has a large Simba sitting next to her. It's staring at me.
Started to watch Cowboys & Aliens, but got too sleepy and instead stretched out on an empty row and tried to sleep, but couldn't drop off. Opened my eyes to find the Chinese had invaded, and had to ask a lad to vacate my seat.
Surrounded by ill people. Sniffs, coughs...good job I haven't watched Contagion yet. Did watch RED, which was good fun.
Saw the lights of Baghdad, and the fuzzy orange light of the sunrise on the horizon ahead of the plane as we started our descent into Dubai.
Amazing buildings on our approach, and is that smog or mist?
A smooth landing and here we are in Dubai at dawn. A few hours to kill until my connecting flight, then it's a real long haul...
