The news was still full of 'Brexit' and the resignation of the prime minister. The turbulence and uncertainty continues.
After breakie we drove to Chichester so Anthony could catch the bus for another day of motorsport at Goodwood. I left the car at the station to wander around Chichester for a bit.
The city centre stands on the foundations of the Romano-British city of Noviomagus Reginorum. I walked across the railway line and past the real estate (where I spent a few moments looking at the properties for sale) before I found a stone archway which lead to Chichester Cathedral. I looked inside and discovered a beautiful building which was consecrated in 1108.
I timed my visit to perfection as the organist was playing high up in the cathedral the whole time I was there. It certainly created a lovely ambience. I explored the cathedral which was full of interesting religious artefacts, art, Tudor paintings, Roman ceramic flooring, stained glass windows and pre-gothic sculptures.
Amongst the tombs of several bishops dating back to the 12th century, was the fourteenth century table tomb with the effigies of Richard Fitzalan Earl of Arundel, and his second wife Eleanor holding hands. Although you are reminded by signs not to touch, the items are close enough for you to reach if you chose. It is astounding that in many cases there is nothing besides a sign between you and ancient relics.
I was able to go through the Treasury which contained 700 year old triple lockable timber cabinets and jewellery dating back to the 1st to 5th centuries. It was an interesting place and I lit some candles for Lara, Stephen and Dad. As I left the bells were chiming in the bell chamber.
Once outside I realised it had been raining while I was inside but it then stopped when I returned to the open streets. I looked around and it was like an open air shopping centre - streets of shops to explore.
While shopping I managed to find some new shirts for Anthony to replace the two he had torn already! I also stopped for tea and a slice of delicious lemon cheesecake.
Anthony then called and we met back at the car to travel 'home' for an afternoon of movies. It was very relaxing to have a nice house to laze around in for the afternoon before we cooked fish fingers for dinner!
Oh, and with the cold snap in Sydney it is finally warmer here.
