We called an uber driver with the plan of going to the airport via Charles Bridge as although we saw it yesterday, we didn't get a chance to walk across it. When we asked the driver he was confused as we had booked for the airport, we explained that we did want to go to the airport, but via the bridge. He looked relieved, smiled and nodded his head, but our request was lost in translation! We didn't get to stop at the bridge, but we did get to the airport.
We travelled to Milan, picked up our hire car and took off for Lake Como. As we sped down the highway the sky ahead was a big black bruise.
We were booked in at Bellagio which was about half way up the lake. As we began travelling along the winding road that hugged the lake we fell in behind a bus. We travelled a few kilometres enjoying the magnificent lake and mountain views before I noticed the white caps on the lake and the wall of rain. The storm hit and we were glad to be behind that bus! Unfortunately as the road narrowed further it turned off and we were left to negotiate on our own.
Anthony travelled through the heavy rainfall in a strange hire car, along narrow roads that often were only wide enough for one car, shifting gears and coping with me cringing away from my side of the car calling "you're too close"! We finally arrived halfway up the lake and waited for the ferry to carry us across to Bellagio.
Once the ferry disgorged its feast of travellers we meandered through the even narrower street of Bellagio to our hotel. What a relief! And we got a car space very close by (parking was a premium in this little village). We checked in, dropped our bags in our room with a fantastic lake side view and balcony before we recovered downstairs with a relaxing drink.
We decided to have dinner in the hotel and sat at a front row table enjoying the view. We both agreed this place was outstanding and hoped we could come back for a longer stay some day.
For dinner I ordered tuna sashimi for entree with a crumbed veal chop for main and Anthony had parpadelle pasta with a beef ragout sauce. My entree was enormous and Anthony's pasta was too small so we shared the crumbed veal (there was no way I could've fit it in!).
After dinner we went back to the room and settled in for the night. Anthony fell asleep pretty well straight away given the traumatic journey and I read for awhile. We left the curtains open so we could awake to the view at sunrise.
All of a sudden I realised there were fireworks out on the lake. How did they know we were here? I woke Anthony because I didn't think he'd want to miss it. He wasn't too impressed at first, but did enjoy the display once he'd woken properly. He also commented that it was the first time he'd seen the night sky since we'd started our trip.
