Well I have been here a week today how time flys, feels like I have been a month mind you. Dont no if that good or bad.
Arrived back at my hostel at midnight last night after a very interesting weekend.
Late saturday night we caught a bus to Puno,8 of us. What a bus ride that was just as well it was dark.I It felt as though we where going through fields, very bumpy my seat was over the wheel. What a long 7hours.
Arrived at 5.30 am in morning, of to the hostel !! four beds for 5 of us, hot water was hit and miss and certainly wont put it on the 1 star grade. Oh well all part of the adventure.
We had couple of hours rest then 3 of us went of to do the tour of Lake Titicaca. It is 3800 meters above sea level which is 500 more than Cusco, the Lake is the highest lake above sea level. I started to feel the alltitude hit me, but stuck with it. A boat took us out on the lake to see the floating Islands, there are 60 of them it was very interesting to see how they make there homes on digging the peat like earth at the bottom join them together making a biggest Island that they want, cover them with reeds and make there homes& boats with the reeds also. I have some photos to add but the man is not in the shop till later so will upload them then. It was funny to look into there homes as it is just for sleeping but up in the corner was a tiny TV. Solar panel run.
It was good to see and interesting but like everything else to touristy. We then had journey back on the boat, I felt so ill and it seemed the longest boat trip ever. By now the alltitude sickness had set in, plus I had a awful cold, not the best feeling. Never mind little did I no it was going to get worse.
I went to bed at 5.pm with all my clothes on i was so cold, no hot water, nose bleed & generally feeling crap. The young ones came and went getting into the fiesta that was about to start on the Monday.
Next day I woke feeling fine 4 of us went out at 5.30am to sort out seats along the road side to watch fiesta 73 entertainers (Different groups up to 100 in each) I belive. We managed to get 8 seats half way for about 6.0 0 per person. We then stayed and the rest joined when ready, there was sellers along the route, food drink etc and it began at 7.30.am We where having loads of fun as you can join in with them all, you no me with a few beers also another girl Lyndsey is as nutty as me so it was fun. Bought foam sprays and the rest you can imagine. Jess has the photos which you will love but dont no when I can get off her, as my camera died. About 2.30 4 of us decide to go for lunch,as the sun was blazing so needed restbite plus they where only on about the 23rd parade about another 50 blimey, be there all night.
No I suddenly got hit with that great tummy bug, ugh, on top of the fact still had cold although altitude sickness was a little better. In bed for me again at 5.pm, ugh no hot water limited toilet rolls sharing with 4 youngsters not the best feeling in the world. They all came and went partying while I continued to share my time between the bathroom & bed, on top of that because of allitude I got nose bleeds. Sounding fun now. But apart from all that Im glad I went for the weekend. Bus trip back was worrying, but managed to get through it, arriving back at midnight Tuesday.
Today is Wednesday & Im not to bad, little rumbly tummy blocked nose but no altitude problem here as we have dropped 500. So Im an old hand now.
This morning went off to my first placement, scary as I was only going to watch and they gave me 2 classes of 6 up to 13 year olds, each time on my own. Luckily I had gone with Jess husband to show me where(She has trouble today wih those parasites in stomach) as he speaks Spanish little english. But I got through and they where all pretty good. Just done numbers with them as luckily I had learnt them. Will have to get myself organised for next week as then i start 2 mornings until March then it goes up to 5 mornigs. They where all very sweet and gave me hug and kiss when we finished class. Much more well behaved than UK kids. Can you imagine trying to get them motivated if you couldnt speak there language
This afternoon an going to see the safe house to see if I want to get involved there in the afternoons.
Then off to cookery class at 6.pm its a busy life here in Cusco, plus one of the girls Lynsey who came on the weekend is 24 today & hoping we will all go for a drink. Not sure about that one. !!
Excuse any mistakes as this keyboard is worn out so its a little bit of guess work where the letters are.
Tommorow at 10.am its the start of Spanish lessons hope she has got a lot of patience as its just not going in this thick head. Think my CD rom is full.
Hope you are still with me till here and you are enjoying the daily adventures of bobby in Cusco.
Back tommorow speaking fluent Spanish, not.
