Test Run
Our lovely stay in Badger's End cottage in Chipping Campden has been so delightful I thought I'd make a special entry of some of the local area highlights. The cottage is just one street behind the high street (as they say in England) & is secreted behind a simple door between the Post Office & the Co-op through a tiny cobbled laneway. Built of golden stone & with the universal pink rose climbing over it's walls it is a perfect place to stay with all requirements for our month here. Highlights of the town itself (in no particular order) include : honey coloured limestone buildings, Huxley's for the best coffee, St James church & graveyard, Almshouses, dry stone walls, fabulous hanging baskets, Old Campden House ruins, the arched market hall, Peter in the gift shop, massive meals at the Lygon Arms pub, watching the soccer World Cup with the locals at the Noel Arms, Drinkwater's greengrocers - a step back in time, French pastry shop, Chef's Dozen restaurant - second night after opening, Dover's Hill for the view, a walk through head high field peas, thatched roofs, Jekyll's ghost plant, roses, the sound of sheep calling, co-op truck backing down the lane, markets in the town hall & buying a watercolour, silversmith's studio with accounts hanging from the ceiling, the most delicious strawberries, pigeons calling, Sunday roast at the Kings Arms & the very special open gardens when were allowed into private spaces, behind walls & hedges to share the magnificent plants, flowers, lawns & even tea.
