Test Run
After the advice of many people not to drive because you never find a place to park, we went by train to Oxford for the day. An easy walk to the town then waited by the green bicycle for the Footprints Walking Tour. This turned out to be two hours of great fun & insights from Tom, a very personable young man with a great British accent who walked & talked us about under the dreaming spires! We really enjoyed his stories of the Bridge of Sighs, The Bodleian Library, the rivalry between Oxford & "the other place" Cambridge & fierce rivalry between the "town & gown". The Martyrs memorial was interesting but I especially liked the stone cross in the road in Broad St which marks the actual site of the burning at the stake of three men. Two bishops & the Archbishop of Canterbury were martyred for their religion in 1555 & 56 - possibly the true beginnings of the Protestant Church of England. Such a lovely city with so much fascinating history - one day doesn't do it justice!

Eve What is it about university towns! We spent most of our day in Cambridge looking for a park.
