Test Run
Taken by driver to the Blue Lagoon Clinic near the famous hot springs. Walked along a path through moss covered lava rock landscape to the main lagoon & spent the morning in the water with many other people but it never felt crowded. The water is a delightful 37-40 degrees & a beautiful pastel blue, colored by silica. Both painted our faces with the grey mud & waited for a miracle! Unfortunately all it does is cleanse & exfoliate so the freckles & wrinkles are still there - oh well. Snack lunch in the cafe overlooking the water & finally found a smoothie made with the local yoghurt called Skyr which is delicious. Afternoon in our room watching Le Tour de France on Bastille Day & sad to see Alberto Contador retire from the race after a nasty fall. This will change the tour for Michael Rogers who was working for him as a possible winner this year. Dinner in the fancy Lava restaurant then back to our own private lagoon at the clinic for another long float in the perfect warm water. The ground underfoot was SO soft with thick grey/green mud that you almost couldn't feel it. This was our last day in Iceland & it's been the most magical place. We're so glad we decided to add this amazing week to our holiday & will certainly consider returning here in the future.
