Well this is for Tasmania and the Blue Mountains near Sydney
Got to my tassie hostel at 11pm and made an immediate impression on the hostel manager! he wasn't happy cos i turned up an hour after reception shut so i had to ring on the door bell and get him out of bed, oh well he'll get over it!!
Spent the next day walking round Launceston and went on a gorge walk for a couple of hours. My tour of Tasmania started the next day so had an early night and got up for the bus.....So far on my travels i've never thought to myself "what the hell have i got myself into" until i saw the people that were going to be on my bus the whole 5 days! There were 3 old german ladies, 2 girls from taiwan and a japanese lad! i just wanted to ring Jimmy Savile and get him to fix it for me!!
I walked up Cradle Mountain on my own because i was much faster at walking than everyone else and i think the grannies had about 10 toilet stops along the way. The mountain was a good trek and workout, felt so good when i got to the top, it was about 6km in total which isn't too much but was pretty steep! That night i expected a boring night in with everyone but it ended up being good cos i ended up just chatting to a couple of aussies and stayed up drinking with them all night. They even invited me to stay at their place in Perth over xmas and new year cos they won't be there at the time. Not sure how serious it is so have to see nearer the time, been keeping in contact with them so we'll see.....!
Did a 10km walk through a rainforest and on an old railway line that's now covered in forestry. Again i finished about an hour before everyone else!
Next day was my birthday! it was actually better than i thought it was going to be, just had a few chilled out walks so nothing too bad, they even bought me a cake which was nice! I dragged the japanese guy to the pub in the evening so that i wasn't drinking on my own on my birthday! ended up getting drunk watching a band in a pub, masoki, the japanese guy can't really drink so after about 4 pints he was pretty wasted and then started drinking half pints. I just ended up chatting to a few locals cos masoki was out of it!
I thought i was with the same group the whole time but everyone else had finished their tour and i was on a different bus the next day, it was a much better bus, i ended up hanging out with a couple of american lads, Jordan and Greg, and an english lad, ross. they all knew each other as they all go to Harvard uni in america! never would've guessed they were clever looking at them though! haha sorry lads!
we all had a quality time, drinking and laughing at each other! we went to wineglass bay wich was an amazing beach, you can see from the pics! also went on a penguin tour and saw loads of little penguins running from the beach, was so funny watching them do trial runs to see if the beach was safe!
We went to a little wildlife park and saw some koalas, wombats, wallabies, deadly snakes and fed some kangaroos. Also saw a couple of tasmanian devils feeding, they look nothing like the cartoon character but demolished a bit of meat, bone and all! I thought Jordan was going to get attacked by one of the deadly snakes at one point he kept on prodding them with a stick! for some reason the containers all had the lids off so you could easily touch them (not that anyone would be stupid enough to!) well apart from jordan!!
After the wildlike park we visted a cheese factory, ummm cheese and went to the pub! had a beer and also bought a beer for the pet pig! it apparently gets fed beer all the time and loves it! it necked the beer so quickly, i think i'd have trouble against him in a comp!
Also visited a memorial where all the tress had been carved into sculptures, was very impressive. On my last day the others had all left to carry on their tour so i went to the Boag's Brewery which is a Tasmanian brewery, was really good tour but i forgot to take my camera..... d'oh!
Tassie was a nice change to have a little bit of a detox for a few days and to get a bit of nature and wildlife for a change!
My flight back to melbourne was alright, only took an hour but then had to get a bus from melbourne to sydney, it was a nightmare. The bus was so noisy and full of kids and fat people!! I managed to get about 2 hours sleep through the noise on a 12 hour night journey. We stopped off at about 3 o'clock in the morning for a break in the middle of nowhere, i got back on the bus and one of the fat famalies is feasting on burgers and chips, how the hell did they managed to find this!!? there's nothing to be seen for miles, but i imagine you put people like this on the moon and they'd come back with a KFC!
Went to the Blue Mountains yesterday, it was really interesting and had some great views and stunning walks.
I'm going out with Tom who i met in New Zealand night then off up the east coast tomorrow.....!
