Tor's Adventure
Kep, Lucy's arrival, Sihnoukville and Siem Reap!
Going back a few days now, on the monday after finishing, with a few other volunteers i went to a place called Kep. South east coast. We'd heard it was a small place and not very touristy so we werent sure what to expect. Got the bus in the morning which took 4 hours (we were told it took 2 and a half!). We arrived and got kicked off the bus in what seemed like a very random location! Two tuk tuk's were waiting for us and took us to our guesthouse which we picked out of the lonely planet and was only actually 100 yards down the road, we could have walked it. Easiest dollar the driver ever made! The place we stayed was on the beach, well couldnt really call it a beach but it was on the seafront! Very quiet. We ventured into the town and we came accross the Crab Market, it was crazy, so many women in the sea fully clothed with hats and gloves on fishing for the crabs and then they were selling them to the locals. We'd heard it was the best place in Cambodia for seafood so we were looking forward to trying some that night. And indeed we did, big shrimps, squid, crab and a whole fish, it was so yum and only $6 each! We explored some more the next day and we were about the only tourists there which was pretty cool. The locals were so friendly and eager to have our business! Back on the bus at 2pm.
Lucy arrived on the Thursday, a very exciting moment! I went to the airport to meet her in the afternoon. The following day we went to the S21 prison and the Killing Fields. Very sad but i think you have to go to appreciate what the country has been through.
Didn't stay long in Phnom Penh once lucy got there, i had been there 5 weeks and was ready to move on! So we got the bus down to Sihnoukville, the beach town of Cambodia and chilled out there until Tuesday when we got a 10 hr night bus up here to Siem Reap. We arrived at 6am and got taken to a guesthouse called Boomerang which was pretty nice and cheap so we decided to stay. We needed to get our Vietnam, visas asap as it takes a few days to process and we were planning on going at the weekend. So we went and dropped our passports off and then decided to jump in at the deep end and do a day at the temples (Angkor Wat) on not much sleep and in baking hot sunshine! It turned out ok though and the temples are amazing to see, we went to Angkor Wat and Thra Thom which is where some scenes from Tomb Raider were filmed. If you have seen my facebook photos its the one with the massive trees and roots, it was really cool. By half 3 though we were well and truly pooped! We had an early night and slept until 11.30am the following day! Since then we havent really done much.. we did go to an orphanage for an afternoon which was really fun. There were 30 kids living there and they were so happy and cute! We were there for a few hours and then they put on a bit of a show for us. Was interesting to see another orphanage.
Tonight we are going to try a fish massage which is when you put your feet in a tank of tiny little fishes and they nibble the dead skin off your feet! We have been told we have to try it!
Tomorrow we are off to Vietnam, leaving for Ho Chi Minh City at 6am, 10 hours i think it is. Ive been in Cambodia just over 6 weeks and i have loved it. I will miss the lovely people and óf course the children.
