Tor's Adventure
Last week of project
So after spending a week at Riverkids on my own, (not sure if i said i was on my own for one week..!) 21 new volunteers arrived, taking part in various projects. 6 of them were coming to Riverkids. I was looking forward to having some volunteer company! Although i couldnt think where everyone would go. I tagged along to thier orientation dinner on the sunday so i could meet everyone. I was the only remaining volunteer so everyone was keen to ask me questions but it was a tad wierd because the most there has been since i came is 8 volunteers, now there was 22 of us! Some cool people though, lots of aussies and kiwis. So Jo, Joanne, Tara, Richard, Maria and Brigitte were to join me on the Monday. It worked out that i just carried on with what i was doing, classes didnt change which was a relief! Two of the girls went into Kindergarten where no one was before, Jo and Richard went into another class, same aged kids as mine and the others taught smaller children in a different building. I didnt realise how many kids there actually was, turns out all the volunteers were needed. The week flew and the kids were told i was leaving.. it was sad not for me because i was leaving but you could tell that they are so fed up of having new volunteers all the time.. they didnt want me to leave but im sure they act that way to all the volunteers. I didn't do anything special for them on my last day, we were told not to spoil them and to me it didnt feel right to celebrate me leaving when its not really a happy occasion for them! I bought the girls some hoops to hula with because they were going on about 'wiggling' since they saw it in a book! They went down a treat! It was sad to leave them but i was more sad about leaving my little ones and they didnt really understand i wasn't coming back.
That weekend most of the volunteers went to Siem Reap for the weekend but some stayed behind who have already been or going later so i stuck with them. No one from Riverkids so it was cool to hang out with some different people. We went out for dinner on the Friday to a gorgeous place called Boddhi Tree, got a much needed pedicure on saturday ( did not realise how dirty my feet were!) and then we watched the rugby on saturday night and ended up in a bar/club called The Heart of Darkness! Which was actually a really good laugh. Good ending to a good week!
