A very short drive had us pulling in to Mt Barnett Roadhouse for fuel and water and to book in for the Manning gorge campground. After setting up we went for a short drive down the road to do a short walk into Galvans Gorge. It was a very pretty little spot with a rope swing and heaps of rocky outcrops for the boys to have a jump from. Ben tried to re-enact a jump from the very top of the gorge like Carlisle Rogers but he chickened out! It was far too high.
The next morning we set off fairly early to do a longer, more adventurous walk in to Manning gorge. To begin the walk you have to climb into a little leaky dingy and pull yourself across a river on a rope. The walk took us about an hour, it was quite hot and there were some rocky hills to traverse but it was a pretty good walk. The waterfall and waterhole were both beautiful and so much fun. The boys had a ball climbing around all the rocky edges of the falls and jumping off into the deep pool. Ben and Jack did their highest jump yet from almost the top of the falls. They were followed by a couple of old blokes who thought it looked like so much fun they'd have a go too! I also enjoyed a refreshing (cold!) swim around the huge pool and ducked in behind one of the lighter falls. We spent hours there; eating, swimming, climbing and sun baking; delicious. After a hot walk back Jack, Will and I opted to swim across the river instead of using the boat. We spent a while there swimming to cool off again. Needless to say we had an early night!
