We arrived in Zanzibar after driving up from the Serengeti and passing through Arusha and Moshi in Tanzania. We had to get a ferry and I was NOT happy with this. I spent the entire 2 hours journey with a sick bag in my lap (although pleased to say it wasnt actually used) The people here are lovely and most live in poverty but they still want to help you in any way they can.
We stayed one night in Stone Town and ate at the famous Forodhani Gardens seafood market followed by drinks overlooking the harbour. The food was amazing and we finally had a bed in a hotelroom with our own shower - luxury!! We then took a water taxi over the Prison Island the following day. Prison Island used to be an island with a prison on it (funny that!) which has now been turned into a $400 per night hotel. The island is famous for the giant tortoise living there. They were HUGE.
In the afternoon we drove up to the north of the island to a place called Kendwa where we spent the next few days relaxing by the beach and doing watersports. Zanzibar is stunning, the people are kind, the weather perfect, the beaches tropical. Now back to camping again!
