After we left the Delta (sadly), we travelled across the border into South Africa. Our first stop was Polokwane where we set up camp for the night.
We headed to an area called Blyde River Canyon where there were some amazing views of gorges and the canyon below. We stayed here for one night. We then headed into the Kruger National Park for 2 nights where we were surprised with a beautiful luxury tent that had been booked for us by our tour. For the first time in ages we had a bed, our own bathroom and a toilet seat that we actually dared to sit on instead of hover over!! On our second from last day with ATC we went out on our final game drive. This one was particularly special as we managed to get really close to the Rhinos, having only seen them from a distance in the Ngorongoro Crater.
The following day we left the Kruger National Park and travelled a full day to Johannesburg where we checked into a hostel and said our goodbyes to our new found friends and the ATC crew!
Before we left South Africa, we had talked about our whole trip and were both equally as gutted that we didn't get to see Mount Kilimanjaro (on the 3 occasions we had passed it, the visibility had been bad) HOWEVER! On the plane from Johannesburg to Nairobi, we flew over Tanzania and just happened to see the mountain from above with all 3 peaks above the clouds! Perfect.
Africa. Done.
