Today was a very interesting day. We visited the place where Mao and his cronies first established the CRC party. It was a surreal experience glancing into the room where it all happened. It was very basic. Just a cupboard and a table with chairs. On the table some simple teacups and toothpicks. To think that Mao's rise to power began in that room is quite unbelievable.
We spent thereby of the day perusing through the mazed alleyways of Shanghai in a place called TianZiFang which was riddled with small artisan shops. A great area here the local community was contrasted by refurbished modern shops selling trinkets an souvenirs at rather expensive prices. Nonetheless, it's vibrant atmosphere and cobbled streets made it an enjoyable amble through the heart of Shanghai's community.
