We are finally in Guilin. It's been a rather comfortable 23 hour journey considering, although we were 3 hours delayed and the grandma sleeping in the bunk below me had an impressive snore which kept the whole cabin up all night. To top it off, I was on the top bunk (out of 3) and the air conditioning decided to stop working through the night. Needless to say it was a very toasty night's sleep... I did, however, share the cabin with a Mexican called Jonathan Li....

Today is our last day in Shanghai. I can't believe it's the fourth day already. I've had an amazing time in Shanghai and sad to leave. But look forward to coming back. I'm spending the morning relaxing and nursing a little bit of a hangover. Last night I met up with my good friend Alex again and went to the Shanghai Brewery which had killer nachos and burgers and a great microbrewery. Today was a very interesting day. We visited the place where Mao and his cronies first established the CRC party. It was a surreal experience glancing into the room where it all happened. It was very basic. Just a cupboard and a table with chairs. On the table some simple teacups and toothpicks. To think that Mao's rise to power began in that room is quite unbelievable. We spent thereby of the day perusing through the mazed alleyways of Shanghai in a place call...

Just a quick update. I've arrived in Shanghai. Just as hot and humid as Nanjing but somehow you forget about it when surrounded by such incredible architecture twined with the occasional traditional alleyways between buildings. Simply put, I love it here already. I really hope I get to work here in the next few months. Today we are jut going to have a wander around and discover the area. Will update the blog later :)

So the first day in Shanghai has come to an end. Like I said earlier, I absolutely love this city. So much is going on and it's just a very happening place in general.
