Today we went to Yangdi, a small village north of Yangshuo. Our purpose was to ride one of the rafts down the river Li. The ride took just over an hour to get from Yangdi to Xingping, but was one filled with jaw dropping scenery. The horizon is filled by peaked mountains that make you feel as if you are watching something on National Geographic. It's truly a spectacular sight and something so far away from the familiar that it's quite hard to digest. The boat ride was a very pleasant and quiet one and made better by the fact that the three of us had it to ourselves. It went at a slow speed so that we could take in every aspect of our surroundings.
Once we got to Xingping we took a picture in front of some particular peaks. The reason being that these peaks are the picture that can be found on the back of the 20 yuan Chinese note. A very recoginsed image in China. Walking through the village you are transported back in time as all the buildings maintain their traditional form which just adds to the already mesmerising backdrop of mile upon mile of peaked mountains. Just a beautiful village.
We came back to Yangshuo by bus and had a very good Chinese meal of braised aubergine, fish flavoured meat strips (delicious despite its name) and some green beans. Really, really good food.
Tomorrow is our last day in China before heading to Vietnam. We are all very exited. I cannot wait!
