After minimal sleep and lots of airports and planes you would think maybe a nice day resting would be the way forward...
Instead after having an interesting taxi ride where the driver had to run some 'errands' en route from Quito airport! At about 2am I found my self in the lovely hotel la Cartuja with my own room!
Later that morning a sweet German girl, Alice, came in and we decided to go to the equator together! With our limited Spanish we made it there via bus (much cheaper) off to Matid del mundo to see the monument but it was the hidden museum where we had the most interesting time. Our tour guide was fantastic explaining Ecuador traditions and doing experiments showing the effect of being right on the equator. Then to top it off we were really culturally diverse to have subway for lunch!
We took the bus back a different way and it was wonderful to be totally involved in it all. The bus hardly stopped for people to get on(run and jump!), horns were blasting and people hopping on to try and sell us anything from ice cream to recipe books!
They say the best way to experience the city is to walk so we did just that! The streets are named with dates of the year (eg. 8 de Octubre) The fruit in the side stalls was incredible, frest mango for 50 cents! We saw some bautiful churches and lay down in a park which was so tranquil.
Metting the tour group this eve which will be wonderful!
