Well we finally made it to our hotel in Toronto - this was after a hell of a day at the airport. We had to get on the shuttle to the airport at 0615 because of the snow and weather in NY city even though our flight wasn't until 1015. Then the US airport was madness - caos everywhere - we finally made it through all the security checks and then our plane was delayed due to the snow at the airport. Finally we took off around 1200.
When we got to Toronto it just got worse!!! We went through customs - we chose the wrong line and had the lady who asked everyone a million questions and took ages - after customs we then had to go through immigration which had another massive line - the guy we went to was awersome though as he spent the whole time telling us where we needed to go to get the train to our hotel. So then we though we were sweet but no we then got directed to another customs line where they were searching everyones bags. The line was miles long and everyone was complaining about why we were in it. We were there for ages and then when we got to the front of the que they let us go straight through!! go figure. Anyway after leaving NY city at 0615 we walked out of the Toronto airport at around 1615 - not bad for a flight of about 2 hours!!!
We got to the hotel really easy but our troubles weren't over!! Our room was really cold and we found that the window in the toilet had been left open - no biggie so we put on the heater and tried to warm up. After a while it was still freezing and I needed to go to the toilet. While sitting on the toilet I noticed that the taps was all frozen and had ice hanging off it. When I flushed the toilet it just keep filling up and I couldn't figure out what was wrong - then I realised that the toilet had frozen up and the water (and my waste!!!) couldn't flush away. I went and told the hotel guys who were really apologetic and upgraded us to a suite (which was warm)!! So now we have a rocking big suite which is pretty cool.
Anyway our first full day in Canada rocked - snow everywhere and freezing cold but still had a great time. Brought a book for $3 which is all about what to do in Toronto with kids - but has really good info in it - including the page on what to do for free in Toronto!! We walked around the underground 'PATH' - it is really cool - a pathway which goes for miles under the city and has heaps of shops and food, everything you could want and links up all the malls, hotels and places of interest.
We went and watched people ice skate in the outside rink beside the city hall which was neat - we realised we have watched people skating in outside rinks in Helsinki, New York and Toronto all in one winter - not bad really!!
We then went to the ROM - Royal Ontario Museum - only $5 after 1630 on a Friday - thanks cheapo book!! It was pretty cool - even saw a tauatara and a kiwi there!! And then had dinner at the Old Spagetti Factory - very cool, lots of Tiffany lamps and glass, a tram car and also a big carousel - a kid friendly resturant - yeap thats right found it in the book we brought!!!
Our camera broke in NY so at the moment we only have a wind on disposal one!! So no photos for a while - our insrance company hasn't got back to us but we will buy a new one shortly anyway so will hopefully have some photos for you to see soon.
