Life in South Africa is still lovely! Although the heat makes it increasingly hard to keep to our timetable...our classroom is so hot so we end up going outside for very long playtimes! The kids still want to learn though, and we usually end up sitting in the shade singing songs and learning different words and colours...they've been so rowdy today though, they won't sit still!
Outside work we've been doing more things...had lunch at the volunteer office at Imhoff Farm which is very cute..camels sitting by the roadside (!) and a grassy patch with cafes and jewellery stores..On Friday afternoon some of us went on a township tour of Site 5, or Masiphumele ('we will succed') where many of our kids come from. This was a very different Africa to the holiday suburbs we've been used to..crowded, hot conditions. Quite an awakening. But there are projects being developed -such as the after-school reading club and a new library, which is very positive.
On the weekend we went to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope - the Southern edge of Africa! On the way back we also visited the penguins on the beach at Boulders Bay and Simon's Town, another cute seaside town with shops and cafes. It actually rained on Sunday! So we went to the cinema and saw 'The Bucket List' - a brilliant film, highly recommended! That's it really.. lots of relaxing inbetween...the kids and the sun just tire us out! But its great :)
