So I'm finally here in South Africa!!! It's been brilliant so far! I arrived on Monday and we got taken to a hostel to settle in and get to know the other i-2-i volunteers. We did some African drumming and sinigng which was really fun and took a walk on the beach at sunset...the sky was streaked with red and orange...and on the other side was the moon coming out behind these hazy purple clouds..it was so surreal to be there. The past few days I've been volunteering at the Love and Care Day Centre with Beth and Diana, two girls from London. We're the first people to ever volunteer there which is exciting! Thought we'd just be playing with the kids, doing 'community' work, but the teacher there is very proactive so we've now set up a timetable and are taking classes everyday! I'm in charge of the ABC and English phrases and rhymes.. its fun! The kids are 3 -6. They are so quick to learn and are so so cute!! They just look up at you and smile and throw their arms around you! Today we played Duck Duck Goose in the sunshine! :)
Haven't had a proper chance to explore Cape Town yet, but planning to do lots at the weekend with the others. There's so much to do - looking forward to it!
