I have just had the most AWESOME few days of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A whole weekend of major partying, punctuated by the Black Water Rafting Thursday, Skydiving Saturday and White Water Rafting this morning!!!! hahahahhahahaha!!!!
I think I really am turning into an adrenaline junkie big time and that is not good coz I don't wanna hit a real low when I'm back home with nothing crazy to do!
Skydiving was awesome. It's so weather dependent - cancelled on Friday, so I blanked it out till I woke up Saturday morning and got told: it's on! Ahhhh! We were in Taupo, skydiving capital of the world and went up to 15'000ft which is the highest height you can go commercially. We got our safety talk, put on our gear, got in the tiny plane...I was still really relaxed...Then Damo, the fantastic expert I was attached to showed me we were at 3'000ft and suddenly it kinda hit me...up at 12'000 we got oxygen masks. I looked out the window and there just white clouds...then all of a sudden it was go, go, go! Luckily I had no say in the matter - before I knew Damo was standing at the door and my feet were hanging out the edge looking out. I was just crapping myself at this point and it was like, noooooo! This isn't right!
Then we went! As Damo is so experienced, we got to do loads of tumbles and spins as we fell out of the plane, which the others didn't! But as it was my first skydive, my brain went into major sensory overload, so I don't remember all the beginning of it! If I did it again, I was told I'd be more conscious of what was going on at the time. We freefalled through the sky for just over a minute, and I really did scream my lungs out the whole drop! It was crazy, and my mind was just blank! Then lower down our shute opened and we just drifted gently down over the huge lake and the countryside...so beautiful. Damo let me navigate our glide too, so I pulled down on either side and got to do really fast 360 spins! He he. Then before I knew it, we landed!! Awesome. I was in shock for another two minutes on the ground I think, just shaken and dazed! Ha ha. Wow.
Then this morning, I got up for white water rafting! I've never been interested in my whole life - just too scared - but after the black one I was really up for it. We had six crew in our little boat, and went down the Rangitikei River in River Valley, one of the most dangerous rivers to raft down in the world apparently, and a Grade 5, which is the most challenging you can ever do!!! Woooohhh!!! Each of us had a paddle and Ben our skipper would call out what to do - forward, backward, lean in, get in...sometimes just 'f*ck we're in sh*t!', ha ha! We had to navigate through rocks and waterfalls and rapids and currents. The reason I never wanted to do it was because I thought, if you fell in and hit your head on a rock or got swept in a current, you could be done for. I was assured people have done it without falling in - if you listen to instructions and hold on tight when you're told to, you'll be fine. You're not supposed to be in the water!
But out of the sixteen of us who went, out of three boats, who fell in? Me!! Lol. We were going down a waterfall, and the boat kind of crumpled in the middle, and just popped me out! It all happened so quickly, I just looked up and could see some white light in the middle of the blue above me. My goodness it was freezing! Ben pulled me up pretty quickly and I was a hero for the fact that somehow I had managed to hold on to the rope on the side of the boat the whole time - don't even remember that - but luckily for that, no major dramas! Just my paddle drifting off...lol, but we caught up with it. We were just all splitting our sides with laughter, especially watching it on dvd later. There's something about these sports that just turn you giddy and giggly all over. It's great!
So yeh, amazing. I've now just arrived in the capital, Wellington. No extreme sports to try here..aw shame. Lol. Just gonna chill for a few days and explore, before heading to the South Island. Where more fun awaits.........
