Friday night was an early birthday celebration for two friends here, both 20 at the beginning of next week (the 28th and 29th). We started off in a bar called bananas, but soon moved on, a little tipsy at this point, to a vibrant but sweaty salsa bar. Within no time we're approached by what seems like a multitude of Mexican men sporting pervy moustaches. Their forward ways practically force us away from the sidelines and to join in the antics with encouragement from our dance partners such as, "you're a natural" and "you've got moves girl." Cringeworthy as it is, it's lots of fun and a taste of a real authentic salsa club which beautifully captures the kindred spirit of Mexico.
Next stop, a gay club, of which the name now escapes me. Though a little confused as to why we ended here, it definitely was an experience to remember (or not depending on how many beers you've had to drink at this point). There are several floors to the club including a roof area and a main dance floor where there are various young, hairless men in luminous highlighter yellow speedo pants dancing on the platforms. What's more, despite being advertised as a gay club, we haven't succeeded in escaping the shameless Mexican flirt and are still approached by several men almost immediately. Our solution; introduce ourselves as a lesbian couple to everyone we meet, although how convincing this act was I'm not too sure. All in all a fun night and home in time to catch a couple of hours sleep before the bus journey the following morning.
