The first thing that hit us when we arrived in Bangkok was the heat! It is so humid here compared to anywhere else we have been on our travels so far. We got a taxi to our hostel and grabbed a beer and then slept. Day One in Bangkok involved a Sky Train ride to Siam Square where all the malls are (I bought a top) and then headed to Khao San Road (where all the action is). We realised very quickly our hostel was too far away so booked a new one for the Khao San Road area for one night. Day Two involved moving hostels and then exploring Khao San Road and surroundings (I bought two dresses and some sunglasses, and a new backpack as mine was too full so I bought a bigger one- eep).
Day Three in Bangkok and we moved hotels again - the new one is amzing right in the centre with a gorgeous rooftop pool- perfect for acclimatising to the heat! We went to the Grand Palace but it was shut so we headed to Siam Square for more memory cards (yes we will have seven between us now!) and food. We headed back to the pool to finish off the afternoon. In the evening we got a tuk tuk to Chinatown for tea and then another to Patpong night market (I bought a Handbag and Tom bought a wallet) and were harrassed by go-go dancers which was funny.
Day Four and we finally took in some culture and went to Wat Pho a Buddist temple site. We were also blessed by a monk! The temples are beautiful and we saw a 46m long reclining gold Buddha. We headed back to the pool to cool off and then got dresed up and headed to a bar for cocktails.
Day Five- today we have finally visited the Grand Palace site and the Wat Phra. It was so beautiful but so so busy with tourists. We enjoyed the gorunds here and then heaeded to the pool in the afternoon. Tomorrow we are getting the flight to Pnom Penh, Cambodia...
