Greetings from the ninth and final new country on our itinerary. We arrived in Phnom Penh in the early evening after our flight from Bangkok was slightly delayed by a massive tropical storm! A tuk-tuk ride with all of our bags through rush hour traffic brought us to our guesthouse 'Me Mate's Place'. After chilling out with the aircon in our room to escape the heat for a bit we headed out for tea at an awesome tapas restaurant run by a local NGO helping Cambodia's many street children. The next day we got up early with the intention of hiring bikes and cycling to the killing fields and S-21. Thankfully we were talked out of this by the staff at the hostel and opted for a tuk-tuk instead which meant not cycling 14km each way when the sun is already scorching here at 8.30 in the morning! After a morning learning about the attrocities carried out here we spent the afternoon in the National Museum which is full of carvings from the temples of Angkor and put us in the mood for our trip there later in the week. That night we ate some traditional Khmer food at another restaurant run by the same NGO which was even better than the previous night's meal! A late night followed as we stayed up with the Australian owners of the hostel watching the rather disappointing Sunderland - Chelsea match. The next day gave us enough time to look around the Royal Palace and take a trip to the Russian markets to stock up with everything we'd need for the upcoming days of temples, temples, temples!
