Hola from Puerto Escondido! After a TEN hour overnight bus from Oaxaca City we finally arrived in Puerto Escondido at lunch time ish yesterday. The bus journey was rough and we hardly slept but we got here in the end and there are plenty more overnight bus rides to come (unfortunately!).
Puerto Escondido is surfer´s paradise. The longest beach here is known as the ´Mexican Pipeline´and the water is so rough that is too dangerous to swim in and for expert surfers only! We took a walk along Playa Zicatela today and the waves were incredible. The other beaches nearby are much smaller but good to hang out at and we can swim there too- tomorrow we are having a day at the beach to psyche ourselves up for the next bus journey.
The trip is going really well and finally settling into the backpacking routine (if there is such a thing!) Although we have both drank too many Coronas already I think! The people are so laid back here and the shops are good! The temperature here feels like it´s double that of Oaxaca and we´ve got to be extra careful in the sun. The hstal has a mini pool though to cool off in and it´s tempting at night if you can´t sleep because of the heat to jump in! Mosquito bites are coming thick and fast at the moment so we´re watching out for those. Last night there was a baby tarantula hanging out in our bathroom (confirmed by an Aussie!). Think we´ll only stop around here for the three days because other than beaching it there´s not much else to do here.
On Thursday evening we are getting a thirteen hour overnight bus to San Christobel de Las Casas and there we will be staying for three or four nights before we head to Palenque.
Will try and get the photos up soon! I hope everyone is well. HAPPY BIRTHDAY REBECCA!
Lots of Love Fi & Tom
xXx
PS we are keeping our eyes on the Thailand situation all the time - if it doesn´t improve we will be redirecting the flight to one of - Vietnam, Singapore or Malaysia.
