We took the ferry over to Nainamo on Vancouver Island where we met my Aunt Thelma. It was great to see here after so many years. She took us to her home in Qualicum Beach. It is such a lovely place, so peaceful. She took us out for some fish and chips and from the restaurant watched the sun set over the beach. It really is a lovely place. The next day Thelma took us for a tour round the village.
It was a shame we couldn't have stayed longer. We took the Greyhound down to Victoria. In Victoria we did our whale watching trip. We were all kitted out in in big boiler suit style outfits which were supposed to keep us warm and dry. We were also given some very fetching orange woolly hats. As I'm no fan of the cold I put mine on straight away. Out at sea it got really misty so it seemed for a while that we would probably not see anything. Luckily a chance spotting by one of the other boats meant we got to follow 3 orcas for quite a period of time. I was so happy that we got to see some. They were really beautiful and really graceful. It was a great trip but by the time we got back we were freezing and soaking!
That afternoon we took a walk out to Beacon Park. We went in search of the 2nd tallest totem pole in the world but didn't find it. Ah well. We walked back by the harbour and market place. That evening we randomly met a friend who we had met in Mexico city!
The next day we were to take a bus, boat, bus, then another bus to get back to Seattle so we could fly to Orlando.
