Find Vicki and Liz
Ben, our guide, collected Eira and me from Cable Beach and after meeting the rest of the group we settled ourselves into our seats ready for some pretty heavy driving over the next 8 days. Everyone in the group hit it off straight away - G'Day everyone! - and the 4WD safari from Broome in Western Australia all the way through to Darwin in the Northern Territory really was excellent. I won't bore you with the names of all the gorges we visited and swam in or the exact route we followed as I'm bound to get it wrong! Basically we followed the Gibb River Road and 'bush camped' along the way which meant that we would pull in and we would make a fire and set up camp! More often than not there were no toilets and no showers, everynight we slept under the stars in our swags. Ahhh, the stars, I've never seen a sky like it, brighter than bright stars and the clear Milky Way.....unfortunately no shooting stars for me even though I stayed awake most nights searching for my first! We visited the Bungle Bungles which Eira and I loved, the 30 minute helicopter ride might have influenced us. A bit of a treat but well worth it! The helicopter had no doors so we hung out taking photos off this magnificent mountain range. For me, WA was fab and I would love to go back and spend much longer there - it's so huge! We left WA and headed into the Northern Territory which was interesting! Our first stop was for lunch stop where there were some hot springs for a swim and some toilets but both were out of use.....why? Because there were Brown Snakes in the toilets (V V V Dangerous) and a Saltie (Croc) in the Springs!!!! Needless to say we didn't stop for lunch! We arrived in Darwin and were in need of a jolly good knees up so after dinner we experienced the nightspots of Darwin eventually zig zagging home at around 5am! The following day was spent utilising the pool and facilities of the very nice hotel situated just down the road from our not so very nice hostel! We spent a few more days relaxing in hot Darwin before joining The Ghan train to Alice Springs and our trip to The Red Centre!
