Find Vicki and Liz
G'day from Western Australia!
I flew from Sydney to Perth leaving Vicki in Sydney - sad to leave Vicki but not sad to leave the rain!! Perth is a 5 hour flight from Sydney and is 2 hours behind - I was starting to realise how vast Australia!
The couple of days I had in Perth on my own were great - I caught the train to Freemantle to expore the famous Freo Saturday Markets, went to the cinema and caught up with Anna who we met in The Galapogas. Anna you were a saviour - thanks so much for entertaining me in Perth!
Eira arrived after a couple of days and we checked into a nice hotel with clean sheets, towels and a TV - luxury!
To see Western Australia (WA) we booked onto the Easy Rider bus which calls in at the main places between Perth and Broome with the option of jumping off and on when you feel like it. We started the trip with a great group and driver, Gregg (Grigg in Australian!). We called in at Nambung National Park to the see the Pinnacles - hundreds of limestone pillars in the desert. Day 1 involved lots of driving and showed us just how huge WA is and the miles we were planning to cover in a short space of time. We stayed in Kalbarri on the first night that night and were entertained at the local BBQ restaurant by a musical Derby & Joan with their electric organ and guitar - v Brian Potter style!
We visited Kalbarri National Park the next day - would have been nicer to stay longer but it was a flying visit but we managed to see 'Nature's Window' and the Z-Bend River and gorge. We also called in at Shell Beach - a vast beach made purely of shells.
Monkey Mia was next on the route where we witnessed the daily feeding of wild dolphins just off the beach - a real toursit attraction. On the beach there were lots of huge pelicans hanging around for some leftovers!
Eventually we found time to 'hop off ' the Easy Rider bus and spent 3 nights at beautiful Coral Bay - a real highlight for me! As well as lazing around on the beach we went out on a boat trip and snorkelled with a Manta Ray (4m wide) - so graceful, we just followed it snorkelling just above it! We also went whale watching and saw a pod of 4 Humpback Whales migrating - so cool! Turtle spotting and snorkelling with beautiful fishes and coral topped off what was a unforgettable boat trip!
After Coral Bay we hopped back on the Easy Rider bus and experienced some seriously long drives, a stay at a cattle ranch and a bus breakdown - not good! The trip was certainly an experience and very amusing!
Upon arriving in Broome we headed straight for Cable Beach and stayed put for 3 days...pure bliss!! Hot weather, a great cafe, a lovely beach and great company - Eira and Maggie.
Next adventure Broome to Darwin - 8 day 4WD safari, camping swag style in the bush!
Lots of love Liz x
Hi to Maggie who we hung out with for all of this trip xx
