Our flight leaves Glasgow at 4.20pm and goes to London Heathrow (1h 20mins) then we head to Madrid (2hrs 25mins) and then on last flight to Lima, Peru (12 hours).
The flight with BA to Madrid was okay but nothing special. Then we were flying with Iberia to Lima.Never use this company. It was the worst long haul flight I have ever had.I felt like I had stepped back in time.It was one of the old style planes. There were no TVs, small leg room, not what we need for 12 hours! This is going to be a very long flight!
We arrive in Lima around 6.30am.We get to our hotel and only have to wait an hour for check in (which is fantastic!) We are staying at the Radisson Decapolis Hotel in Mira Flores, Lima.Mira Flores is the modern area of Lima with lots of restaurants, shops, cafes and nice hotels. When we check in we are told that we have been upgraded to a suite! The room is fantastic. It is huge! We are going to be very happy and very spoiled here for 2 nights. We freshen up and have a walk around Mira Flores and walk down to the Larcomar, it is a huge plaza on the edge of a cliff over looking the sea and the pier.It has shops, restaurants, cinema and loads more.It is very busy so we decide to try and find a local restaurant instead. We stop at the restaurant have two of their national dishes.Henry has the Ceviche which is fish cooked in lime juice, onion and hot pepper (chilli) it comes served with lots of fresh red onion and huge pieces of corn and slices of sweet potato. I have the Lomo Saltdado which is sautéed beef tenderloin prepared with strips of the beef marinated in soy sauce with pepper, crispy onions, chunks of tomato, spring onions accompanied with french fries and rice.YUM!They were both delicious. If this is the quality of the food in Peru and South America Hen and I are going to be very happy. We go back to hotel and chill as we are extremely jet lagged.
We wake up the next morning at 5am.We have slept from 6pm the previous night lol.We chill in the room until we can go get breakfast at 7am.The breakfast is amazing.Henry orders a Peruvian breakfast of deep fried pork with a special sauce and I order poached eggs in a spicy tomato sauce. It is delicious. It is also a buffet breakfast so we get lots of fresh bread, meats, cheese, pasties and fruit.Henry is loving it.
We are going to book our Spanish class today. We go to a company called 'Peruwayna'.We have booked the Spanish for travellers. We have booked in for 10 hours. We are really looking forward to learning a little Spanish. We have noticed the people here warm to you and give you better service when you try to speak a little Spanish.Everyone here is very friendly. We really like it here so far.
We look for some local restaurants where they have the set lunches. You normally get 2 course meal and a drink for 8-10 sols (roughly £2).Very good value and the portions are huge.Henry is loving this. The first place we try is a small place on the corner of a street. It is extremely busy with locals so this is a probably a good place to try.We get served a purple soft drink called Chicha Morada which is made from their purple corn.
We move accommodation to a Hotel called Solis Dies. The room is 60 sols per night for a room. The rooms are average size with private bathroom. It is very good value. The only downfall is the room smells of damp.

We tried to go on the Mirabus tour around Lima city yesterday but because of the elections the buses were not running. We get a bus today at 9.30am.It is a tour bus like the red ones in Edinburgh. We go downtown to Lima centre. There is not too much too see but we get to the centre of Lima and there is a beautiful square. There is the presidential palace and a beautiful Cathedral on the main square. We get to have a tour inside the cathedral. It is a beautiful building and it is very interesting listening to the guide. They are very religious here.Apart from the Cathedral and the Palace there is not much else to see but we are glad we done the tour.
We also start our Spanish class today at 4pm.The tutor is really nice and friendly. He goes over the basics with us and he is very good.
For the next few days it's really all about the Spanish classes and going over what we have learned and practising in restaurants and we walk to the Cruz Del Sur bus company which is about an hours walk from Mira Flores. We practice our Spanish when buying our ticket to Paracas.
We have booked the vip seats on the bus to Paracas. The Cruz del Sur buses are fantastic. They are all pretty new and the first floor on the bus has big leather director chair seats. They are soooooo comfy and recline all the way back. You are given a pillow and a blanket and get served a hot meal also. This is fab!We only have a 3.5 hour journey but it seems to take no time at all.Love how the South Americans travel. We leave at 2pm on Friday 10th June and arrive at Paracas for 5.30pm.
